Typhoid

Typhoid (typhoid fever) is caused by bacteria called Salmonella Typhi, found in contaminated food or water. Typhoid causes a high fever, fatigue, weakness, stomach pains, headache, loss of appetite, and sometimes a rash. Most U.S. citizens who get the disease get it while traveling.

Typhoid vaccine can prevent typhoid. There are two vaccines to prevent typhoid. One is a vaccine (killed) given as a shot. The other is a live, attenuated (weakened) vaccine, which is taken orally (by mouth). Protect yourself by getting the typhoid vaccination when traveling to high-risk areas. By doing so, you can dramatically decrease your chance of getting the disease.
